At Animal Tracks, our mission has always been to rescue, rehabilitate, and care for exotic animals who have been victims of the illegal pet trade. But sometimes, an animal in need comes along that isn’t exotic—and we believe that every life matters. That’s why, when we were asked to take in a tiny, orphaned piglet in desperate need of help, we didn’t hesitate.
We’re excited to share updates on three of our most recent rescues—each with a different story but all with one thing in common: they are now thriving!
Alexis Daisy: The Orphaned Piglet Beating the Odds 🐷
When Alexis Daisy arrived at Animal Tracks, she was just a few days old, fragile and barely hanging on. Her mother and littermates had tragically passed away, leaving her completely alone. With no one to care for her, a kindhearted community member from Agua Dulce brought her to us, hoping we could give her a fighting chance.
Caring for a newborn piglet is no small task. She needed constant warmth, bottle feedings, and round-the-clock monitoring to ensure she stayed strong enough to survive. But Alexis Daisy is a fighter, and with time, patience, and love, she began to gain weight, grow stronger, and show us her incredible personality.
Today, she is a completely different piglet—healthy, playful, and full of life! She spends her days running after her human friends, exploring her surroundings, and enjoying her meals. Watching her transformation has been nothing short of amazing, and we are so grateful to have been part of her journey.

Malakai: A Fox Freed from the Fur Trade 🦊
Malakai’s story is one of resilience and second chances. He was born into the fur trade, destined never to see the sun, feel the ground beneath his paws, or experience the joys of a normal fox’s life. The fur industry keeps foxes in tiny wire cages, depriving them of everything natural—only to take their fur for fashion.
But Malakai’s story took a different turn. He was rescued and brought to Animal Tracks, where for the first time in his life, he got to experience freedom, kindness, and care. It took time for him to adjust to his new life, but with patience and love, he began to blossom.
Today, Malakai is truly living his best life. He goes out on walks, eats a healthy and enriching diet, and has even made a new best friend—Shy, our other rescued fox! They spend their days playing, sniffing, and lounging together. And let’s be honest—his fur looks best on him, doesn’t it?
Malakai’s story is a powerful reminder of why we must continue to speak out against the fur trade and advocate for animals to live where they belong—in the wild, not in captivity.

Lava Girl: Finding Her Voice and New Friends 🦜
Lava Girl, our beautiful African grey parrot, is another one of our more recent rescues, and she’s been making amazing progress since arriving at Animal Tracks. African grey parrots are known for their intelligence, emotional depth, and ability to form strong bonds.
Lava Girl’s previous human companions made the responsible decision to bring her to a sanctuary where she could have a more fulfilling life, surrounded by other birds and an environment that meets her needs. Adjusting to a new home can be challenging for parrots, but Lava Girl has been doing incredibly well—and she’s even made new friends with our cockatoos!
Parrots are highly social creatures, and having companionship is essential to their emotional well-being. Seeing her interact, vocalize, and thrive in her new environment is a true joy. She’s a testament to the fact that parrots, like all wild animals, shouldn’t be kept as pets, but instead, given the space and care they truly deserve.
Why We Do What We Do
At Animal Tracks, we are dedicated to rescuing animals who have been exploited, neglected, or displaced by human activity. Whether it’s an orphaned piglet, a fox saved from the fur trade, or a parrot who needed a new home, our goal is to provide safety, love, and lifelong care to those who need it most.
But our work doesn’t stop at rescue. We also educate the public about the consequences of the illegal pet trade, and the dangers of keeping wild animals as pets. Every tour, every experience, and every story we share helps spread awareness and inspire change.
